@ Eabin,

i know this folder, i have both folders :D

C:\Users\All Users\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\log

and

c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\log

But in both folders there is no VMR9.log only configuration.log,
mediaportal.log and some more.

Hmm, i am not sure if it is important but i only inserted your
trace version of .dll. So only one file, the other mentioned
files before in this thread are integrated since some snapshots.
Is this correct ?

@ ronilse,

which codecs are you using and is EVR working for you with TV
or also movies ? I have no TV-card in my PC so for me i need
EVR for HDTV .ts files.

the vmr9.log will go to "c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\log". if there is no log directory under "mediaportal", please create it. (see this thread a few pages back, for more info on how to find the logfile, which is unfortunately a bit difficult and should be fixed). the situation you posted says something about a side-by-side configuration error (in which case no vmr9.log will be created anyway), which we had before. broceliande nailed it down and i could fix it, so:

@Broceliande: could you please give as a hint how you found the cause of the side-by-side error under XP?

@Laban: If it works in VMR9 mode, it is very unlikely that the TV-card would be the cause of your problems. The real bad thing about this is, that I cannot reproduce your problem, and the logfiles don't contain any useful information about it.
@eabin : nothing difficult , as soon as a dll refuse to load , saying a dll is missing though it's there , then that means a missing dependancy dll or a missing function.
I used depends to check your dll and i could see the faulty function.

I recorded a small clip of HD material and then tried to watch it using some different players:

    WMP: black screen, no sound
    PowerDVD: black screen, sound
    VideoLAN: works,

Installed Haali media splitter (set support mpeg TS):

    WMP: movie doesn't start
Power DVD: one recording works (doesn't work without haali), the other gives sound but black screen (haali doesn't start).

Tried watching the TS using MP-recorded TV: works

Tried again with live TV, same HD channel. Works.. Well, sort of. About 1-2 fps or something like that. Tried another one (SVT HD, didn't work before), works perfectly. Back to the first HD channel, works.. Hmm.

Live-tv doesn't start Haali afaik , at least it doesn't put the haali icon in the system tray and i don't see a haali process either. But it might be some other setting that changed when i fiddled with Power DVD. I'm going to restart the computer and see if it works after that.

Edit: There is one thing that perhaps changed from my previous configuration. PowerDVD said ".. bla bla, trying to play High Definition content. CLEV-2 should be turned off when playing high definition content" so i turned it off. This was when i tried to play the .ts files using the PowerDVD player. Perhaps this was the thing that was causing the problems. Going to try and uninstall the haali media splitter and see if it works after that. Just to be sure..

Edit2: oops, forgot that i wasn't using EVR. Live TV still gives a black screen. Can't watch the recorded .ts files from MP either.

Ok, this seems a bit strange. Some .ts files doesn't start the haali media splitter. Some do. The ones that doesn't start it doesn't work (black screen, but sound) either (Power DVD player). The ones that do start haali also works.

These are .ts files that i recorded today from the same channel.

Ok, tried to do a recording using the TV-server, manual. This file won't play in the Power DVD player. Or rather, it doesn't start Haali and thus won't work for me.
I then tried to record from the same channel from MP. Just "record-current program-stop". This clip works in Power DVD.

Are things done differently when recording from MP (using the tv-server of course) and manual recordings using the TV-Server config GUI ?

Been watching this thread for a while as EVR is something I wanted to try, took the plunge at the weekend and wiped XP installation and installed Vista 32bit.

Having been watching this thread and others I expected some problems which I have, bit strange though.

    Setup info

    2 (3 effecitive) Cards, TT S2-3200 and a PVR-500
Codecs : Nvidia PureVideo and current Cyberlink
    Lastest SVN releases
    TSReader Enabled
    EVR enabled
dshowhelper.dll as a few posts back - not using this just means channels are selected but get sound and still frame from the selected channel.

From all cards and get a fully working audio and video being SD or HD...

    The but....

Changing channel and card, though slow 6-8secs works ok.

Changing channel on either of PVR-500 cards also works, does not really change channel though...

Changing channel on the TT card just turns off the audio and freezes the currect picture, control of MP is maintained and toggling TVon brings up the channel I have just tuned to.

Have attached not logs as this is easy to reproduce and if logs or info will help let me know what you need.

Some of the above may be better suited to the TSreader thread I know but a lot of the issues only appear when EVR is enabled.

    Great work

    Thanks

Gizzmo: Please check my dll on your system with this utility: dependency walker, and see if you find any unresolved dependencies.

Laban: it seems you have some codec problems. maybe you can try uninstalling haali media splitter for testing, because for .ts files it should not be needed. anyway, as long as the files don't play in wmp and powerdvd, there's little chance it will work in MP. (did you also install the latest patch for powerdvd ultra?)

Ok, found the problem. Disabled hardware acceleration in the PowerDVD settings in MP and now it works just fine. Except for the fact that i'm used to seeing CPU usage in the 10% range for HD material (or 1-5% for .mkv 720p material) and now i'm up to around 50%. It's of course also 50% in !EVR mode since HW acceleration isn't supported there. Should have thought of that (connection between !HW acc and !EVR working)..

Perhaps i need to check the powerdvd patch, and/or the GPU drivers (nvidia 8500).

O.K. i tested your .dll with the tootl and i have one error :

    msvcr80.dll is missing

Do you know where i can get this .dll, especially for VISTA 64bit.

I found some websites with msvcr80.dll but i am afraid of using
one which is not for 64bit VISTA.

Do you think i can find it on the VISTA installation cd ?

I did a system search and found 6 times the file msvcr80.dll one
in the Nero folder and the others in the winsxs folder .

I think i have 4 or 5 different versions because there are 4 or
    5 different changing dates.

So i don't know which version should i have and where ?

I attached the textfile of the dependency check ...

I installed the latest PowerDVD patch and now it works with HW acceleration. MediaPortal seems to think that it's PowerDVD 6 now which is strange but the CPU usage is around 15% so it seems to work nonetheless.

Gizzmo: I will see if this dependecy is really necessary. In the meantime, you will need to put a 32-bit version of the dll e.g. into the mediaportal installation folder, because MP is a 32-bit application, and therefore cannot use the 64 bit msvcrt*.dll.

Laban: That's really good news (finally!). How is your experience when using EVR for TV? In my local build I fixed a few possible issues which would cause the picture to freeze or MP to crash, I think I will upload a new version tomorrow.
