OK, I created the tvguide in WebEPG-conf.exe by adding the names of my channels manually instead of importing them and the problem disappeared.
I'm not totally sure, but I guess that was the cause of the issue.

Short answer, yes this is a known issue. I have reported it before.
The easy way to reproduce it is to have TV turned on in the client, then hit the reset button on the server. At this point, the client hangs without any error message being displayed.

OK - your pointer helped a lot. Just dialled in from work (:)) and although the browser was running, TCP/IP was disabled on the SQL instance. So I enabled that and it seems to connect! Yippeee. Not gonna try TV over VNC (plus it defaulted to all channels rather than my group) but I'll do some fiddling tonight.
