Just a little update, in case this helps anyone. If you press stop on the actively playing video it will start the TV show. Also, I tried the default drivers (instead of FFDSHOW) and it was the same.

Nice find :) and next comment is not directed at anyone.
Remember though, they are not playing the files through MP, which does recommend a DX9 card with at least 128mb memory, so the onboard S3 comment, just will not work with Mediaportal :)

I'm not sure that helps with this but I have also noticed sometimes that MP refuses to load the separate srt file. This was with mkv files but I did not try avi too. Perhaps you can submit a bug report so mkv will also load .srt properly?

I think the functionality should be
If you are just watching TV the computer should go into standby/shutdown instantly
If you are Recording/ Recording and watching TV it shouldnt do anything (Or ask "You are currently recoding are you sure you want to suspend/shutdown)

Just wanted to mention that I have a similar problem, although I believe it happened in RC1 as well:
When using any codecs except MPV/MPA, DVD playback would start the same as in the OP but then just sit on a black screen. No audio, nothing.

I suspect, (but I am not certain), that the SVideo input does not have a hardware encoder. So you might need a software encoder to convert PAL input signal to MPEG etc.

Final update - fixed!! I needed to add the resolutions to the TV Display Manager so that it wouldn't keep going back to 800 x 60 when a movie stopped. works fine for now, the odd crash excepted!!

Ah ... if list scrolling is 100ms then I agree that things are sluggish.
Viewing large shares w/the "watched function enabled and not DB (just browsing filenames) might cause this, though.
You should attach your log files, just so that everything is correct and complete.
