I have media portal up and running well on my computer in my room, which is also hooked up to my tv as a secondary display (not using it for live tv). I have 6600gt with fan (one of the first) and I am very happy with the S-video out. Very sharp and true in it's fidelity. You won't be able to use it for HDTV but you should be able to use VGA or DVI to hook up any modern flat HDTV. My card is 128 Meg and I can still play Quake 4 with high resolution and good fps.

likos, have you seen this thread? https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/development-91/finally-working-ip-tv-solution-tv-server-44158/ Instead of having a seperate PC and an analogue capture card in the server, I wonder if you could do all the internal corporate TV using a completely software setup on the server.

MP1 MP2 Biostar video cards DE
Normally, a nVidia card is just that.... a nVidia card. Manufacturer does not matter - al the do is choose software, cooling and RAM (sometimes not even that). I believe Biostar is MSI-light/cheap (like ASRock = Asus light/cheap).

E5200 is a better solution for a multimedia computer. You can read a good review here. O/C is better (3.5Ghz for Athlon and 4 for E5200), performances are better (E5200 is like an E8400 in gaming perf) your Videocard is perfect. HD4830 is a good deal.

Although the 3450 works fine (I own it), I read after buying that the 3650 is a lot better - so if its not much more expensive, maybe its a better option. I forget now why it was better (some technical reason).

MP1 MP2 Blue Ray via VGA DE
You probably can't get any picture for blu-ray movies via VGA. Yes, because of HDCP. You may bypass that protection for some discs with anydvd but it simply prevents viewing some other blu-ray titles so I wouldn't count on that. You should really check that pixelmapping thing, with HDMI-link you get much better colors as there's no...

MP1 MP2 Budget build DE
Personal opinion - the GT520 is not powerful enough for MP + 1080p display + 1080i video, for nVidia look at GT430/440/530/620/630 i.e. a minimum of 96 CUDA cores (the GT520 has 48) My take on things would be: G540 + GT520 = low(ish) end CPU + low end GPU A8-5500 = mid range CPU + low/mid range GPU (but make sure you use...

Should do fine, just ensure you check the BIOS once the system is together as it may start the RAM in 1333MHZ and you will need to change. The system from guypetj above looks good for a client but I you are adding a tuner card etc I would go with what you have decided. Also the Asus motherboard has 2G shared memory with the GPU...

There are different 690G boards - some with TV-out on mobo or bracket - some only internaly (but they all got TV-out). If you want to use a TV-out, then get Asus (HDMI-version) or Gigabyte (+ some others), and stay away from MSI. PS: nVidias answer to 690G looks promising (the 7050s)

At the moment I would lean towards a s939 in the MSI ATi200 motherboard, but I have been reading about nVidia's new 6150 chipset which is especially made for HTPC applications. It has begun shipping now and should be easy to come by in the next couple of months. I know that the 939 chip uses more power than the Turion, but thanks...
