General questions about HTPC Hardware go in here.
Let me first point-out that Anything with less then 2 disks is NOT A NAS full stop no discussions they are 0.0% chance of guarding against hardware theft or fire damage .. or device failure.. some do allow some "rescue" options. More later in this post The disk growth doesn't stop so your NAS will be underpowerd some day .. ;)...

I went with the i5 in the end -couldn't resisit it. Careful with that motherboard! I decided that I couldn't quite justify spending nearly £600 on a new case when I had a perfectly good Antec Fusion Black laying around. The only problem I've found is for some really stupid reason, the SATA connectors (bar one) on the motherboard...

Nothing like waking in the morning with a BSOD. Especially when you try to reboot and see the dreaded "No operating system found" message. But at least was an easy fix: I had my SSD mounted on top of the BlueRay and the SSD SATA connection does not clip on. So the optical drive vibrations shook loose the SATA cable & windows BSODs...

Hi elsmandino There's really no substitute for a proper signal meter. A set top box and small TV is probably the next best thing. As far as software goes, is there something wrong with the manual control section of TV Server configuration? Relative comparison (eg. quality on a particular tuner changes from 70% to 90%) are okay, but...

Hi there, Is this going to be a server or a client (where the TV connects)? If its a server, then the graphics dont really matter. If its a client, I would say the graphics will struggle. The disks might be an issue if timeshifting and recording? J. (purely guesses/hunches)

Hi! I'm about to build a separate client for tv server. Up to now, I had a single seat config that functioned as a download box as well. I am right now waiting for the AMD Llano A8-3800 (65 Watt Version). It massivly trumps the Sandy Bridges on GPU performance and has enough CPU oomph for an htpc. As the A8-3805 (100 W TDP) is now around 110€, I expect the 3800 to be in a similar range (give or take some). Has anyone heard when it will be available? My last info was "now"

Personally I wouldn't consider any Intel integrated graphics earlier than the X4500HD series - the equivalent vintage ATi/AMD (or nVidia 8200/9200) integrated graphics are much more powerful, if you are looking for old machinery. GPU performance is much more critical for MP than CPU (unless it's really slow, but almost any dual-core...

I have an Antec Fusion Black which I could re-cycle for this. Does anyone have experience of the Antec and the Silverstone SG06B and whether it's worth me getting the SG06B?
