Laptop CPU + efficient power supply + one 3.5" hard drive = not that much heat. :)
Been running pretty much 24/7 for about a year now. Other than the occassional Windows glitch, it's been A-OK. TV's had zero problems.

I used to run my setup over a Draft-N network and I have "streamed" (ie. played back across the network) 1080P x264 MKV files with no problems at all. In fact, mine worked fine even when "only" connected at around 160Mbps. Can't say with any certainty about the TV recordings as my TV card is in my MP machine, but I can't see them...

if your tablet pc has tilt sensors or you are able to attach some it shouldnt be hard to get the your desktop to rotate. i assume that you need a plug in for mp in order to work properly. i think mp uses dx which would adjust the resolution etc seperately from the desktop. so if the desktop just turs there is a good chance that mp...

What will survive from my old HTPC...
To be honest with you Moeb I then take my newly ripped movies and run them through Handbrake and make them all into H264 mp4s.
I know if you use the "out of the box" settings in Decryptor it is fully playable in MP. the other cool thing is that anyDVD stamps an "autoplay" to the folder so it is quite seemless.

it's the slimline DVD drive making that noise. I squeezed some rubber bumbers between the drive and its cage and throttled its speed to silence it down. I still think its too noisy, hence I copy my DVDs to the HDD and never use the drive.
One note on the display: it's not as usefull as I though in the beginning. That's mainly because...

I've got another F1 with 320GB (the one with one high density platter) for my main system.
It's performance is close to the excellent Velociraptor (~90mb/s read/write for the F1 vs. ~100mb/s for the velociraptor) and the price is amazing - cost me 40 Euro.
Seems like a very good choice for a budget HTPC as single disk or a very...

Hi all,

This htpc is a complete diy-project built from scratch.
My worklog can be found here.

After I moved a couple months ago, my MediaPortal HTPC sadly sat around collecting dust until I had some time to show it some love via an up/down grade (it had issues with MediaPortal crashing halfway through a movie and I was never quick enough with VNC to catch the dialog box):
