Hi all, wanted to report to you on my progress with my latest purpose built HTPC.
My previous HTPC was an old IBM small form factor 2.8Ghz P4 with 2GB DDR400 Ram, running Ubuntu 7.04 and Freevo 1.7.x - it was okay until I started trying to play the latest blueray/hddvd rips etc, which is when I decided to look for something to...

Hi what temp does your GPU get to? What motherboard have you used? Can you run speedfan on it? Could you check it? Speedfan can throttle your case fans up and down depending on your gfx and cpu temps. This is what I am trying to achieve. I am looking for an MB that speedfan works on, that I can fit a passively cooled gfx card to and...

Good point! I actually hadn't thought of that when I installed them, it just seemed logical by the color code. I checked it out, however, and it's recommended to use slot A1 and B1 for dual channel mode. Thanks for the heads up! :)

Great blog though it took me a few minutes to realize that the newest info is always at the top. It appears that you are set up for HD, and have installed Windows Vista. Curious if you are planning on recording any HD channels and what your experience is. I too am considering Vista, but only because I want an Omaura case and the...

Thanks Kian - it does sound like a great solution, and I think I am leaning towards this for my setup. I can see that the power on/off thing is a pain, but I could live with that.
Thanks for the feedback. :thx:

You should look toward UnRaid as your backend solution.
Lime Technology, LLC
It's software based and has great performance with very minimal hardware requirements. I built mine out of some spare parts I had laying around:
Antec Earthwatts 430 PSU
MSI K8N Neo3-F
AMD Sempron 2800+
2x512MB 3200DDR
1x1TB Seagate SATAII (7200.11)...

Thin client
Im looking for the same kind of solution. And started to look at something like the PopCorn Hour to stream TV-signal to with UPnP.
But it doesn't seem to be working with MP1, you just have to wait for MP2 to implement TV-Server and UPnP.

The general process I use for setting up a RAID array in windows is the following:
Assuming bootdrive is a physical single drive
1) Only connect the boot drive. This ensures your boot sector and C: allocation goes to the drive you want them to go on!
2) Install windows on your boot drive.
3) Power down
4) Connect Raid drives
5) Go...

Hello, I am new to MP (0.2.3 + xface 1.4).
I actually assembled my HTPC in April '07 and then substantially modified it to support Blu-ray a couple months later. I have been using GBPVR because I can stream divx/xvid files to a MediaMVP upstairs. While I continue to use GBPVR, I needed a solution to limit channel access on the...

Sounds like you did well. The fan control you mention - is that the plastic switch that comes with the Zalman CPU fan that controls the fan speed? I didn't use that either - it may be ok on some PC's but just looks horrible on a nice HTPC case.
Lovely case, by the way - link here for those interested:
