you should post tvserver logs in order to understand which is the problem.
Meanwhile, try to disable "Grab EPG when Idle" checkbox in TVServer Configuration, and check if it become stable (no need to restart, I mean); there was an issue time ago about idle epg grabber freezing tvserver (need to stop/start in order to use it)...

i deinstalled my codec pack and installed the saf.
no change.
but i noticed i haven't installed the original ati drivers. the windows is so to say brand new and everything worked fine so i forgot.
after installing ati drivers 8.5, yes not the latest package, it worked fine.

I don't believe there is a keyboard shortcut to the guide. "Enter" will go to the mini-guide (what's currently playing).
If it's an MCE remote, the "guide" button would do it. :D
