I run an old Pioneer "cinemascreen" projection tv, with an aspect ratio of 3:2 as opposed to 4:3 as most tv's, or 16:9 for widescreen tv's.
By driving the television with a resolution with the same aspect, in my case 720x480, that allows video to be played correctly.

Out of the box windows doesnt support MPEG2 playback.
If you want to playback mpeg2 files take a look at this free mpeg2 codec...

With 01-05-2004 version you can specify a default share
for music/movies/pictures
1. goto file->setup
2. select the music tab
3. then see that column labeled default ?
4. select the default share by clicking it in the default column
5. do the same for movies/pictures
