just a few notes:
- epg is only grabbed if all tuners are idle
- you need to setup the epg languages & channels
- if setuptv.exe is running, epg is only grabbed when in manual control
- When epg has been grabbed (successfull or not) for a channel (say MTV)
then it will regrab the epg (for MTV) after 2 hours
- When you press refresh epg these timeouts are cleared and epg grabbing
should start within a minute
If epg grabbing is not working for you then:
- please make sure that under manual control you do see EPG grabbing
- upload the tswriter.log & tv.log (after epg grabbing has been active for 10 mins)
note that UK DVB-T is an "over the air" epg grab.. rather than via online download etc
surely the EPG needs to grab if the tuner is in use also? this is (i think) a necessity for the "over the air" grab.. as it needs to be on the channel for it to work.
Think frodo means idle as in not recording or timeshifting, otherwise yes you are right the mux needs to be recieved to be able to harvest the epg data.

I am also having troubles getting the EPG. For the moment I have selected all channels and languages for grabbing. I have 56 channels. It seems to timeout for each channel grabbed. An interesting thing is that when I left only ITV1 in the channel list the epg grab was successful, unfortunately I don't have the log files for the successful EPG fetch.
I don't know if the timeouts can have anything to do with the fact that I need to have my old via access redcam connected to my fireDTV-T box. The only reason for having it plugged in is that the tv server becomes almost unusable otherwise and the tv.log will be filled up with the trace:
11/2/2006 11:41:54 PM dvbendPMT version:3 len:134 8277
11/2/2006 11:41:54 PM FireDTV: failed 0x8007001F
11/2/2006 11:41:54 PM FireDTV:ResetCAM()
As soon as I connect the cam again everything is fine. I guess many firedtv-t users must have this problem. This problem should probably be added to the Mantis bug list.
Update: Problem solved!
The electronic program guides (tvguide.xml) have been successfully transferred to MediaPortal.
The issue stemmed from the corruption of one or both of the mc2xml.dat and/or mc2xml.exe files, for an unknown reason. Consequently, even though the tvguide.xml file appeared to be updated, its content kept being an...

In the UK, the EPG transmitted in the DVB-T datastream allows each programme to have two genres -- a primary genre, and a secondary genre (i.e. a subgenre).
The primary genre might be something like Film (or Movie in the USA).
The secondary genre for Film might be something like: Action, Comedy, Crime, Fantasy, Romance, Science...
