Thanks for the response! For whatever reason, though I hadn't yet touched the settings there, page up/down was not present in Keys and Sounds. So I added them myself, and now of course am obsessing over every possible key.

If I got this right this could be somewhat customizable by editing mytvguide.xml in your skin, I haven't tried this myself and I assume it's not recommended, and this would probably only affect your tvguide so you would also have to edit this everywhere else where there's a description as well...

In 1.1.0 it works on a per program basis. That is only programs that exist in the new grab will be removed from the database. So if for some reason the grabber fails for on channel, or even just one day, the existing data for that channel and period will be retained.

Thanks Arion, I didn't realise you could run TvSetup and MP together, though it's still a pain to start MP all the time.
It would be soooo much easier just to pop into the EPG config section, select a 'View EPG' tab and see if it's being populated correctly.
Maybe it could highlight the channels that have no data too..?

I take some of this back - this might be a skinning issue after all. Yes, thanks for that. I managed to establish what the xmltv plugin is reading from the xml file for the Classification field. It doesn't look correct to me with <value>PGR</value>. It seems no MP developers are reading the xmltv forum as I've not got any responses from my message there.
