As Owlsroost said, stripping the TS out is processing... and I'm not sure that the original WTV recording isn't significantly processed when it is recorded. TS is as close as you can get to the original broadcast. WTV is at least one step...

It is a bit random, at the end of the evening we turn off MP, let schedule+++ take over the PC and turn the screen off. Thats it for the night. Come the next day and turn on the screen to see its frozen at the previous evening. schedule recordings are done but it did not sleep. But works OK for days.

I'm now convinced that your tuner can't handle standby/resume [with the current driver] and for whatever reason (not blaming you) your shutdown is not a proper shutdown. A restart is a temporary workaround, but I think you need to find a way to properly shutdown the PC otherwise...
