When i used my xbox as a media centre, i was enable to set up cache's for various stuff when streaming from a network connection...
Maybe a dimmed screen with the random art just mentioned, and when media is playing, a video or music overlay that slowly moves about the screen (bouncing off edges?) with fanart in background.

What I do not really like is how MP handles the scrolling through a video. Just by moving the mouse, the video starts scrolling backward and/or forward.

This has come up before, and I've commented on this before :)
It would be too much work to change MP1 to do this, but I believe it has at least been considered for MP2. There was a sugestion that virtually everything could be made client/server aware and only if you explicitly set it locally would that overide the server setting.

I find it odd that one would want seperate recording and timeshifting paths for each individual card. I would think that mediaportal installer or first time run of tv server config would prompt you for directory for all recordings / timeshifting and then later you could change it manually.
