Think I would go along with a half decent harmony as well if completely dead, at least they properly emulate a MCE remote, I have not seen a real new MCE remote for sale in the UK for a while now.

Well it seems the last digit changes every time I re-sync the remote and receiver (perhaps when moving the receiver to a different USB port as well). Is there anyway to use a wildcard for the last digit (i.e. 164) in the EG script so that I don't have to edit it everytime I resync or move the receiver?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but is there a way to diable the IR receiver either directly on an Antec Fusion Remote case...
The black Targa MCE Remote is a special one - not a "real" MCE remote.
As you described, the remote is recognized as a HID device (instead of eHome-device, if you use a "real" MCE remote). That's why I would suggest: Try in the MP configurations the settings "use a HID remote". Perhaps that will work better.

If not you should do this and then look for:
