But it seems getting the metadata over the internet will be more like 30 seconds to 1 minute from my experience (sometimes even more)
which makes the process for a single disc 110 to 120 seconds, which makes it about 12000 seconds for 100 discs, ie 3hours something....Time in itself...

The actual problem is more then likely contained in the first few kB's of the file, as that is where all the header information is located. There are many tools available that allow you to generate a smaller 'sample' of the same file that might still contain the problem. And you can also debug the issue...
