If I was watching ITV HD (channel 178), then started pressing the numbers 143 (to change to BBC one HD) then you would see the numbers 1, 4, 3 as I was pressing them.

You might get away with small differences (e.g. 1.2.1 and 1.2.2), but I shouldn't think that the more recent version would be compatible with 1.1.2 (which is very old indeed).
You will need to upgrade your server first and then come back for support if you are still having problems.

Thank you everyone. Problem resolved.
All the steps suggested above had been done, but even though I hadn't set timeshifting\recording folders for both tuners, both showed the same default directory.
After I clicked the button to "use the same directory for both tuners" everything worked.
