Having trouble installing or configuring MediaPortal?
Same Here...... but there is a workaround :-)
I did a manual download from the install.team-mediaportal.com server. Unfortunatly the download was extremely slow (less than 28 KBs). Also I noticed that the MySql verssion thay you doanload from install.team-mediaportal is 5.1.38 (not 5.1.35 as mentioned by the downloader)

Think that comes with PDVD codec for mpeg2, not sure if it comes with the MPC-HC h.264 codec which is pretty good for dxva on the appropriately created files.
The reason I say the above, some HD profiles are not fully dxva compliant, if you want to keep such files, just use handbrake to convert the video file to a dxva compliant one

If you want a stable machine that does mediaportal only i would actually use vista with sp2 at the moment.
that would guarantee a stable system and no hassle with getting your mce remote to work and more of those things.(on XP)
on xp you need loads of patches to get it in shape...
