No it is not possible, you can not control master volume in W7. The fix you mention was actually to grey out the setting on W7 because it does not work. This is by design of W7.

I'll try and give a reasonable solution, install MP without TV, when the installer asks do you want TV, select NO.
Then you can run MP side by side with MCE, and try out most of the current plugins (except TV based ones).
Be aware if using MCE remote, do not press any of the special keys whilst running MP, ie TVGuide...

Yes... Everything depends on codec and hardware. So if your hardware is capable to hardware accelerate it then you should install appropiate codecs. SAF just makes life a bit easier - codec wise :)

I haven't tried to install mp 1.1.0 myself so can't confirm that.
I am usually installing databse myself, rather than letting mp install it for me with default password and default collation as collation is very important for me using russian and polish characters.
