SOLVED: Well, more accurately, worked around. Turns out MP has sounds associtaed with remote buttons during DVD playback as a default. Disabling these sounds allowed for proper playback. A suggestion for an MP improvement would be a way to disable these sounds with one click instead of having to disable them one by one. I suspect...
