for some reason i cannot pass power through a splitter to the lnb. when the sky set top box is turned on i get power but without it i get nothing. the splitter passes power on both ports so i am confused as to why this is happening. is there a setting in mediaportal which controls this?

IMO it will become more and more difficult to run MP within a virtual machine if the development will increase vista and DirectX 10 support :-(
All I need is a small application to be able to watch TV on my MacBook Pro. The migration of complete MP is not necessary and sure it'll be more difficult than a small TV client.

Don't know what I did but it seems like this was due to something erroneous with my mp after the update, I removed the track-cache (twice) diasabled and enabled the plugin a couple of times and cleaned up my recent-chart on last.fm and suddenly it started working again.

You can just use MPW on another port than your old apache. Never tried this, but it could work. Otherwise you need to duplicate the whole config of the MPW Apache Server. This is for example also the asp plugin for the webservice files.

I think I solved the problem.
Ever since I downgraded the Realtek network driver to an older version from Asus homepage I have any problems playing videos from network. The driver from I used was from Windows Update, it worked fine as far as one could see but apparently it have some issues when it comes to streaming stuff.

I think the most simple solution for this will be a DVB-S (or DVB-S2) card. Connect your dish to it and watch, if the channels are free to air. If the channels aren't FTA then you will need a CI-module and CAM for using your smartcard.
