I had the same problem. The configuration utility gives the "tvservice not started" error while the windows service had started succesfully. I tried to restart the service several times but without success. AlfredENeuma's solution (kill the tvservice process) worked perfectly, thank you!

I use Avast as well, got fed up with avg failing to update itself.
Surprised it stopped you configuring though, but it will not be the first time that AV companies have flagged parts of MP as a virus :S
