For anyone following this thread, the problem with displaying M4a tracks appears limited to tracks scanned by MP's "Auto-update on changes in share" function. Performing a manual scan using "Update database from selected shares" under "Music database" in the MP configuration will add the missing files to the DB.

I just re-imported most of my music, and for some reason, I had missing Artist data for some albums.
