This might be a longshot; but, have you tried a "normal" computer name? "0x1" could actually be interpreted as a hex value, and I'm wondering if you've triggered...

Try disabling Watchdog (untick both options) see if this continues to happen and Windows reports MP is not responding, only error i can see in logs is related to the audioscrobbler plugin receiving a error, which could be network related.

alright, i've fixed this myself.
The problem was on both clients.
I uninstalled ALL codecs and codec related software
i restarted
I installed the K-Lite Mega codec pack
I restarted
I went into mp config on the client (in advanced mode)
I set the preffered codec to ffdshow where available
I unticked Prefer AC3
that was it.

The easiest solution is to install power cinema 5 - even though you are not actually using power cinema 5, you need the drivers and encoders that are installed with that application. It won't do any harm to have it installed alongside MediaPortal, since you will only be using MediaPortal for TV.
