I can't think of any reason why you couldn't use SQL 2008. You'll need to do the SQL install first, then tell MediaPortal that you've got an existing SQL Server to use.

I have figured it out. MediaPortal volume responds to the + and - keys, which are Function + P and Function + [ (or something like that).
