Ok, I have tried and tried to get MP to work but keep running into issues and I think I've deduced it to the SQL server not working...
I would recommend MCEBuddy for this one, it will remove adverts using comskip and convert to compressed format, the preferred one is h.264, quarter of the size of the original with same visual quality.
Regarding TV, cable should be fine unless encrypted.

I do this and it acts like:
Press Btn --> Exectute keyboard button "H" (goes home if MP in focus) --> Windows command make MP the focus.
