I don't know if this will help since I'm ATSC in the U.S. but I noticed that MediaPortal will try to tune to stations that are not in the guide when you use the Page DN/UP button. Yes, it should be blank if no backdrops are found.. Don't think it's a config issue, it seems more some kind of bug to me..
Just to sort it out, give a look in the thumbs directory, the one in which backdrops are saved (don't remember which is, sorry).
