Hi,
This is a great list, but I've got one small thing to add.
When I got serious about setting up an HTPC, one of the biggest problems I had was input peripherals. An old-school USB keyboard had obvious limitations - being tethered to the machine and rather ugly when not in use. Plus I still needed a pointing device. So I...

I agree, go with the first one. You won't need even the power that it has to run the MP GUI smoothly. Plus with the money you save you can modify it to be as quiet as the HFX.

Ahhh, yes...... Ehrm, Yahoo.......
All they tried to do was buy out Meedio and make it dissapear. It just forced it underground. Meedio is now FREE and open sourced with a really great team of plugin and theme developers carrying on the project. Basically, it has nothing to do with Yahoo.

Well since there are no opinions, I went out and bought one, ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED. Not once it has gone in active mode.
I replaced the two 8cm fans at the back of the HD160 Plus case, and replaced them with 8cm Noctua fans. The contents of the case are quite simple:
Intel DP35DP motherboard, E4600 CPU with Scythe Ninja Mini...

I thought it needed to use the CPU to decode the TS stream to extract the individual MPEG stream. Some of this also depends on the card, and I only have the mx4000 to try it with. My server originally had an older TNT2 card in it.

Already done. I've actually decided to leave the hard drive intact when I add my other equipment. There are too many little things I've added that I would have to re-install and set up, and I don't want that kind of trouble right now. Things like firewire channel switching for the STB, LCD display settings, etc. I ghost the OS...

Picture of the two modded gamepads soldered to the NAD_keypad_motherboard. This is one heck of a timeconsuming part of the mod. Lots and lots of cables..

why does the HTPC has to be in the living room?
thats the question my wife asked me 2 weeks ago.

80 to 140W isn't as bad as I expected, I'd rate you at 2 freezers :-). Currently I use 105 to 140watts for my server but this includes the switch, modem, micro server and a rather inefficient UPS. With regards the UPS I just worked out today via google that a big UPS with a small load will be inefficent. I am looking at getting a...

Longest. Sentence. Ever.
You can pick up some cheap remote extenders off ebay, or pay an arm and a leg for them at RadioShack or similar. Look for pyramids: one as a receiver, another placed within line-of-sight of the original IR receiver. I don't know their exact range, but unless you live in a mansion, they should reach.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer to see if S4 even supported by the motherboard, strange as it may seem, if S3 works, usually S4 is a doddle to set up within windows power management and has no other adjustments.
We know your system supports ACPI, but has it been "cut down" in any way by Aopen, and only they would know.

You need a little program called "Powerstrip."
Look either in their forums or in the AVScience forums for 1:1 pixel mapping for your TV, and I assure you Powerstrip will be the way someone figured it out. (example from my TV: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=670840)

Well, I really didn't want to have to buy a video card just for this purpose, or a "really" old one at that... but I couldn't find a cheaper solution.
I picked up a brand new Radeon X1050 for like $35.... considering a VGA 2 Composite converter runs about $60, I guess its worth it... plus it frees the reserved member that was put...
