ah, ok thanks :) That would make sense actually - when i upgraded it wanted to uninstall directx and re-install it for some reason? Even though I'm sure it was on the latest..ah well - i'll give it a go..cheers!
Edit - got my driver number wrong..im on catalyst 9.2 at the moment.

As we did state many times in the past allready, the inbuilt TV-Engine of MediaPortal is nolonger supported.
It was only keept in for legacy reasons. But in my opinion, it is finally time to remove it completelly since its not supported anymore.
This topic will be discussed in the team.

Yes I saw that article, that is why I suspected that LAN was needed. I also wondered why the MP setup asked if PC always connected to internet. Strange that this wasn't mentioned as a requirement or that the effect of turning off the modem would stop scheduled recordings!

It appears that my broadband wifi modem must be powered up so that scheduled tv recordings will work - is this correct?

The problem is gone now. I think the reason at this moment was a still open UltraVNC connection to my HTPC (which does turn of Aero by default). I also switched on/forced vSync in ATI control center.
