I was strugeling with some heating problems...
I cant help about 1080p because my screen only supports up to 1080i.
I do not have any issues with flickering, syncing, etc. All looks well. Same for 720p. Now I dont know if issues arise when you go to 1080p or not, but I do know many people have issues with ATI based solutions...which is why I disabled onboard ATI and went...

I must say that its all pretty cramped inside, obviously that shouldn't come as a big suprise considering the name, mini , but never the less it still gave me some headaches during assembly. (Especially the Borg VGA is a tricky thing to fix. )...

I dont use that dongle anymore. I now have a ASUS Xonar DX.
But I have read about issues with the new 9.1 CAT from ati regarding the sound.
I did get it to work with Realtek HDMI audio drivers. I think they are better with sound. You can give those a try.

I would say it may be better (and easier) to get a card that does support the diseqc switching and then sell your card on...

HDMI does some strange things sometimes, I have seen similar reports as you did on several other forums. It also has to do with HDCP and DRM security that doesnt want us to mess around too much.
