I tired the "background switcher" and it works a treat. :-)
The only odd thing is that the Recordings screen is totally transparent which makes it a little hard to read. Apart from that, this plugin does exactly what I want. (Now to edit the skin to remove the now unneeded mini TV view from the EPG screen). :-)

Why this? From what viewpoint this decision was made? Iam also annoyed by this behaviour resulting from one of the latest updates since the epg is the only part in mp where the gui behaves like this. It isn't consistent throug the overall mp ui and it makes absolutely no sense from my perspective.
