Thanks ! During august i replaced two 500go by a seagate 2to ! For the VGA card, it's the Intel's chipset which is doing the job ! (very well !) So no more warm and noise ... ;) For me it's enough for a pc which is only HTPC (no game etc...) Ok for Streamed MP, i'll try it....

How about shifting much of the storage into a NAS. Then you don't need the main pC on to acces the media, and if you run SABnzbd on the Acer, it can access it as well?

Forgive me as I am a bit out of touch.... So from what I read an APU replaces the need for a graphics card, is that correct? and by what your saying it will handle my needs above? I forgot to mention that I want to be able to play online content as well.

Hi guys, Nothing to show, but a little update...... The Seasonic PSU failed on me... but it was swapped out under warranty (one week turn around). The replacement has a very very quiet hum (only hear it with head against the HTPC). I'm now running an i7 ivy bridge (was built with an AMD) - so my hope of it being interchangable...

Technically, there's nothing stopping a client being built for Android that could use a native stream. So, for example, you could run an MP server on one machine, and have a phone / tablet / GoogleTV as a client. I already do this on my phone and tablet using aMPDroid, but I use an encoded stream. This works really well.

About this time last year, I set out to build the cheapest HTPC I could find that could still play 1080p x264 content and came up with (very close to) this: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16702511 The Sempron 140 is what i used in my build. I was able to core unlock it, to enable two cores...

Hey :) yep it is rather complex, saved buying an expensive video matrix tho :p It was originally more complex than that lol, I had another AV switch with loop-backs to allow any device on any screen at will, but it's not really necessary  It cost around £100 for the kit to do this, a 4x4 video matrix unit would have cost...

Another recommendation for HandBrake. You will get better compression (mkv, x264 codec) and more choices, and it will take care of the black borders. Personally, I use DVD FAB for ripping (one click) and Handbrake for encoding (more or less one click, use AC3 passthru for audio so you don't lose on quality, 400 MB per hour of video...

Hi there, It's been a while, but as the motherboard broke down, I was forced into upgrading the HTPC's contents :) As a case like this is hard to come by nowadays, I decided to stick with it.
