Hey thanks for the warm welcome, and the good advice! :) I think the problem was that I had never accessed those shares in explorer, so access had never been granted (this is a very recent install). After accessing them in Explorer Mediaportal starts up fine. My next mission is to resolve my AV sync issues ;)
