No with real VT-D HW and ESXi you can passthrough PCIe cards to certain VMs.
I would have gone that route but ESXi still has problems to raw passthrough HDD so I couldn't run ZFS. madm wouldn't have been an issue folks at OMV forum do it.

Make sure that your folders are set correctly, then click on "Update database from selected shares"
For some reason my database only had two records in it until I did this.
