I was finally able to solve the problem. It's the tv client plugin that's the cause.:wtf:

Tv client hostname setting points to a valid tv server --> VFD acts like you would expect and updates every second

True cloning works well but you are restricted to both displays having identical resolutins and refresh; as of yet no display drivers from ATI/AMD or NV have true scaling options for cloned displays.
