When watching TV, there are times when the screen goes to 6:4 rather than 16:9 (particularly when watching things like Friends or Scrubs on E4).

This sounds like the same problem I have. I am using 1.0 Final and changing channel 1-5 times or going back/forward (30 sec to 15 min) multiple times freezes MP. TVServer is running fine. Starting the TV Server config and hitting preview on a channel work perfectly even though MP Client is dead (showing last frame).

Fixed mine seems it was a one of the config 'xml's' that was causing the problem

Solved the problem by replacing the entire MediaPortal-folder with a backup. Hence one of the files must have become broken by the crash. Maybe an idea to have a SHA1-sum-check in the error-log utility?
