I don´t want to change completely to XBMC/APPLE TV 2, but the fact that it is very cheap and small compared to a pc client makes it perfect for our bedroom and chrildrens rooms, but I guess I just need to wait I can see it is on the "to do list" for next XBMC version and I hope it will work on the IOS device too.

Very odd. It does sound as though MovingPictures is causing a problem. Could it be that you have a very low spec system, and database access is causing this?

i highly recommend installing und using lav filters. you can configure an audio delay in it's audio settings, once installed.
this codec is available as extension here. quite possible, that it will solve your other problem as well.

Yep, I'm using a RAM disk. In the past I have found it the best (as you'd expect).
I suppose I could use my SSD - but I'd hope 8GB should be enough for general timeshifting.... I might add an extra 4GB... :D

Okay so a bit more digging and I found this. What it boils down to is that I have cranked up the master volume in windows to 100% from about 3% and used the gain dials on the back of the power amp to attenuate the signal to an acceptable level. Straight away I've got a marked improvement. Yay!
