Since installing of the standalone MPC filters baffled me, I tried installing the MPC package in its entirety, a very modest sized thing, believing that the desired AV decoders would install with that. Nope, it didn't happen, so I have to go back to MP install to get usable decoders.

I tried disabling all ATI processes, and no joy.
I am going to try to unistall cat 9.12 and go back to 9.9. I also have an issue with the HTPC periodically crashing. Sometimes i get artifacts on the screen after the crash and sometimes soundloops. Another annoying ATI thing. I wish i had gone with a Nvidia solution!

Now the reason i titled this thread "AVI files juddery" is because it does not appear to be happening with MKV's at all...
The picture quality should be same whichever renderer you use, the only difference is if your pc setup can make FULL use of the chosen renderer, I use EVR for both XP and Vista\Win7, for me it just seems smoother.
But as the old saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so everyone has there own opinion about this :)...
