I had also these issues on my XP SP3 installation with MP1.0.2. I have solved this problem by using the Nvidia PureVideo decoder for MPEG2. I'm using also an ATI 4550 graphics card.
Maybe it's a better solution to upgrade to W7 (with MP1.1RC2).
