I belive Vanessa has dropped the 3DMP and other versions of it. Last time I checked she was working on skins to the new skin-engine. There has not been any updates in a loooong time, so nothing is certain (to put it gently).
IMHO, it would be a shame not to finish these skins.

I found an easy way to disable the popup. Instead of just placing the MP3 file in the folder with the pictures I always create a playlist labled folder.m3u even if I only have one song associated with that slideshow. Using the playlist seems to surpress the popup. It also lets me avoid renaming the MP3 files
