I am having a problem getting Media Portal to scan analog cable channels. I've selected the country as either canada or United...
But actually that is a good idea, to uninstall completely and install again, I should have done it at the beginning, there is anything which should be kept, I would have to re-install all the plug ins. But when I install the skins again there will occur the same problem, I assume.

Doesn't sound good. The filter error in MP configuration is almost certainly related to this (DirectShow being the Microsoft codec/filter framework that MP uses). If DirectShow is not working properly then MP can't work properly.
Debugging requires a debugger to be installed. Don't worry about that - it is likely a waste...

thanks, fiddled around with uninstall driver, etc and now CPU for MP back to a nice <5% on full HD PB - i reckon you might be being a bit rough on the little GPU that could, its humming (no pun cos not fan) nicely now, but not flash for games i'll concede.

For the Guide I use SchedulesDirect. I picked my channels using *their* interface, then set up MePo to do the import and had it automatically add the channels for me. That saved HOURS of fiddling.

I think the issue is that you have set the codec MPC - MPA Decoder to decode the signal, i.e. it is taking the digital siganal and changing it to a analogue one to output through your PC speakers. You need the signal passed to your Denon AVR-1909 as a digital signal, not decoded so that the receiver can decode the signal...
