I did verify the missing new file is present - it is in the correct directory but it's in a subdir under the channel name (this is the way Mp1 saved recordings).

This depends on the used format. If you use "Full" SBS or TAB then the quality is the same as MVC. But you're right, normally the "Half" formats are widely used. MP2 can play Full SBS and TAB without issues and external players. Even the whole GUI is in 3D then... It's only a matter of the video source. Imho the "Full" formats...

I think without log files you'll not receive help I guess :)
MP2 is able to play mkv files, make sure, that LAV is correctly installed and selected in the player settings.
Do not install any codec packs and remove them, if installed. They mess up the system and usually cause such problems.

Maybe you are asking the wrong question. If the same channel from one tuner is able to serve many local clients concurrently, why you would need it from another playlist?
So from my side the recommendation is back to first version. Scab once, map to all dvbip tuners.
